ICRE CINEMA: Forest Diary (Documentary)

Monday 18 November 2024 ICRE organizes a new session of Cinema and Sculpture. The documentary Diari de bosc, directed by photographer Joan Vall Karsunke, will be screened. In the film, the director approaches the particular way of seeing the art and life of Xicu Cabanyes, who has turned the Bosc de Can Ginebreda, in Porqueres (Pla de l'Estany), into an immense space full of sculptural figures , especially erotic, concrete and large.

IMPORTANT: Because the room has a limited capacity, there is a need to have some control over the number of attendees. To do this, you will need to confirm your attendance at socis@icre.cat. This activity is free for all members, as long as the confirmation is made in advance. If you do not, you will still be able to attend (although we cannot guarantee that there will be room for everyone) by paying 5 euros, the same amount as non-members who wish to attend.

Synopsis:
The photographer Joan Vall Karsunke studies the creative process of one of the most famous erotic cut sculptors on the artistic scene, Xicu Cabanyes.
In the film, the director approaches the particular way of seeing the art and life of Xicu Cabanyes, who has turned the Bosc de Can Ginebreda, in Porqueres (Pla de l'Estany), into an immense space full of sculptural figures , especially erotic, concrete and large.
Xicu Cabanyes (Cabanyes Collell, Francesc) (Serinyà, 28/9/1946)
Son of a family of farmers, Xicu Cabanyes entered the world of artistic practice when he started working in a furniture factory: in 1962 he made his first wood carvings, and later he used new materials such as mud, metal, concrete or polyester.
In 1965 he held his first exhibition at the Caixa d'Estalvis de Girona and it was at this same time that he came into contact with fellow sculptor Domènec Fita.
He was part of the group El Tint de Banyoles (1972), a very active group in the cultural life of the capital of Pla de l'Estany during the 1970s.
His works are delicate at the same time as forceful volumes. Almost all of them are large in size, inviting to be touched and, most of them, related to the concept of life and death. Also, in many cases, they are erotically themed (vaginas, phallic elements, etc.).
Most of its production is scattered in the Bosc de Can Ginebreda, outdoors, and adapts naturally to its surroundings.
