1st International ‘THREE-DIMENSIONAL MUSIC’ Sculpture Contest HOMAGE TO THE GUITAR

Miquel Llobet by sculptor Josep Cardona (1923), Museu de la Música de Barcelona

The ICRE (Catalan Institute for Research in Sculpture) is launching this initiative in order to promote creativity between sculpture artists from all over, coinciding with the XIIth edition of the ‘Miquel Llobet’ Barcelona International Guitar Contest, taking place at the incomparable Museu de la Música de Barcelona.

The ICRE is a not-for-profit company created with the objective of internationalising, promoting and educating in the field of sculpture. The group consists of members, sculptors, historians and sculpture lovers.

THIS CONTEST IS AN ORIGINAL PROPOSAL THAT SEEKS TO PROMOTE CREATIVITY IN THE FIELD OF SCULPTURE AND TO LINK MUSICAL ART WITH FINE ART

The coordination between the Three-Dimenstional Music International Contest and the Barcelona International Guitar Contest will become a pioneering project in the European context, which will provide a space for the citizens to express their preoccupation towards art and culture.

JOINING SYNERGIES TO GO FURTHER

The coordination between the ICRE, the ‘Miquel Llobet’ Barcelona International Guitar Contest and the Museu de la Música de Barcelona has allowed us to draw up this first call for submissions. The conditions are available at www.icre.site/certament and there is a multi-lingual downloadable PDF.

The contest is aimed at an international call for submissions and later selection of 20 sculptures. The contest is open to any style of sculpture and material, and also seeks to strengthen the variety of representations of this year’s thematic instrument, the guitar. Thus, the sculptures may make reference to the guitar in a broad sense of the world, either directly related to the instrument or a guitarist or composer, a particular guitar piece or any other symbolic allusion to the guitar and its music.

The selection of the 20 sculptures will be decided by the jury composed of Dr. Sergi Oliva, Senior Lecturer in Sculpture at the University of Barcelona, Dr. Pilar Vélez, director of the Barcelona Design Museum and Dr. Jaume Ayats, director of the Museu de la Música de Barcelona in addition to a member of the ICRE (who may express an opinion but has no vote).

These pieces will be exhibited from the 25th October 2015 to the 17th January 2016 at the Museu de la Música de Barcelona’s temporary exhibition space, and will be published in a catalogue, as well as at www.icre.site.
